Lemon Garlic Prawns
Updated: Nov 25, 2021

A quick simple starter or side, this recipe of Lemon Garlic Prawns takes literally no time to prepare. Be sure to marinate the prawns for a maximum of 30 minutes else the garlic may overpower the delicate flavour of the prawns.

Time taken
Prep: 5 minutes
Marination: maximum 30 minutes
Cooking: 3-4 minutes per batch over a grill pan (varies as per your cooking method – BBQ / grill pan…)
Ingredients to make Lemon Garlic Prawns
For 16 prawns I used:
For the marinade:
8-10 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
Juice of 1 lemon / lime
1 tsp salt or to taste*
* prawns are naturally a little salty and the butter will also add salt to the recipe - use lesser salt than you usually would
For cooking:
1 tbsp butter
1 lemon / lime, sliced in to roundels
1 tsp red chilli flakes
Method of making Lemon Garlic Prawns
Marinate the prawns in salt, garlic and lemon / lime juice for 30 minutes.
Heat butter in a grill pan and add the lemon / lime slices. Let it caramelise for a minute or so and add the prawns. Sprinkle chilli flakes and cook for a minute on each side – prawns don’t need longer cooking time.
Serve Lemon Garlic Prawns hot with the caramelised lemon slices.
You could also reduce the pan juices and drizzle over the lemon garlic prawns before serving.
Note: well cooked prawns will look like a C and when overcooked prawns will resemble an O (uhoh!). This is a good way of understanding the cooking time.
