Tadke wala raita

Updated: Nov 25, 2021

A flavourful, spiced twist to regular raita – any of your choice: cucumber, bottle gourd, pineapple, burhani, kachumber, boondi

A tadka or tempering enhances the flavours of any raita really.

Tadke wala raita makes for a quick, filling snack in between meals, as much as it complements any Indian meal beautifully.

Pair it with lachha parathas and you have a full meal!

If you're new to Indian cooking, here are a couple of raita recipes to get you started.

Serves: 2

Time taken: 5 minutes

Ingredients to make Tadke wala Raita

2 cups raita of choice

1 tsp ghee

½ tsp cumin seeds / jeera

5 – 6 curry leaves, roughly torn

1 green chilli, chopped

Method of making Tadke wala Raita

Heat ghee in a tadka pan, add cumin seeds. Once these crackle, add curry leaves and green chillies. Fry these for less than a minute and pour over chilled raita of your choice.

In the recipe image above, I've added the tempering / tadka to a grated cucumber raita. The recipe of this cucumber raita is linked in the notes section.

This tadke wala raita is the perfect accompaniment to any Indian meal really. I however, make this recipe of tadke wala raita during my fasts (vrat / upvas) to be served along with tadke wale aloo or jeera aloo.

I do also pair this scrumptious tadke wala raita with Indian sides, like Beans Aloo, Dry Whole Moong on days when I don't want to make dal. Also with this dry-ish Pindi Chole recipe.

Serve tadke wala raita with a chole (chickpeas) biryani or a veggie pulao too.

Do take a look at the other condiments recipes and simple Indian meal ideas.
