Chocolate chunk / chip cookies

Ingredients to make Chocolate Chunk Cookies


1 cup all-purpose flour / maida

½ tsp baking soda

½ cup butter - softened to room temperature

A pinch of salt - skip it if using salted butter

½ cup sugar

½ tsp vanilla extract

2 tbsp milk

½ cup chocolate chunks / chips (or a mix of both!)


Method of making Chocolate Chunk Cookies


Preheat oven to 175°C on bake mode.


Start with lightly creaming the butter and sugar - not completely dissolving the sugar granules.


Add dry ingredients and mix well. Add milk & vanilla extract and mix.


The cookie dough will be lumpy, bring together lightly – without working it too much. Chill the cookie dough for some time (recommended – also, learnt the hard way).


Make 1 inch balls from the dough and place on a lined baking tray. Flatten very slightly and bake in the centre rack position at 175°C for 12 - 15 mins.


Remove from oven and cool on the tray for a few minutes, then transfer to a flat surface.


The cookies will be slightly soft when removed from the oven but will harden in a few minutes. An easy way to know that the cookies are baked, is when the edges start to brown.

Variations:


I used the same recipe to make cardamom cookies, replacing ½ cup of chocolate chunks with 1 tbsp cardamom powder.


Use the basic recipe, without additions / flavourings, to make butter cookies.
